Students sculpt, get caught up in clay

In after-school art program

Shannon Cobaugh, 10, of Derby, Ct. works on an armature for a sculpture of an ice skater.
She is one of nine students at St. Mary-St. Michael School in Derby learning about sculpting in an after-school art enrichment program.
The six-week course is being taught by Valley Arts Council President Rich DiCarlo and Vice President Steve DiRienzo.

DiRienzo shows students how to work with clay to build on an armature and create a sculpture.

DiCarlo supervises students' sculpting techniques.
