Local TV show to feature arts council prez, Derby gallery owner

Art show highlights students' work

DERBY - The Gallery@37 was filled with talented kids and their proud parents Friday as the arts council hosted an art show and reception.

The artwork was created by students at St. Mary-St. Michael School in Derby, during an after-school program taught by arts council President Rich DiCarlo and Vice President Steve DiRienzo.
Here's a look at the students holding their artwork.
Their sculpture subjects ranged from flowers and animals to athletes and the Statue of Liberty.

Shhh...artist at work
DERBY - Valley Arts Council President Rich DiCarlo set up shop Friday outside the Gallery@37, 37 Elizabeth St., to work on a mermaid brick sculpture.
Having a table covered with art supplies and a partially-completed sculpture out on the sidewalk attracted plenty of interest from passers-by, he said.

Artists participate in Culture Fair at Ansonia Middle School
Valley Arts Council member Len Grayeck, left, and vice president Steve DiRienzo chat Friday with Ansonia Middle School teacher Lisa Nicolari at the school's fourth annual Culture Fair.
Nicolari was an organizer of the always-popular event.
DiRienzo and Grayeck brought some of their paintings and prints with them for display. DiRienzo said he enjoys attending the fair each year. "We always get a good response," he said.

Council members to take part in culture fair
ANSONIA - Artists will be on hand Friday at a Valley Arts Council booth as part of the fourth annual Culture Fair at Ansonia Middle School.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's always an educational event, filled with ethnic food, costumes, geography lessons, music, dancing, and lots of traditions.
The school is at 115 Howard Ave. The event is open to the community.

Art takes a ride on mural commemorating bicycle inventor
Valley Arts Council President Rich DiCarlo of Derby works in Ansonia Sunday on a mural depicting the first bike ride taken by Pierre Lallement, inventor of the bicycle.
Lallement lived in Ansonia when he invented the bicycle in 1865.
Tim Schmidheini, 14, of Ansonia, helps DiCarlo with the painting.
Derby resident Joel DeScheen (not pictured) also helped to paint the mural.

Council prez expresses thanks
Valley Arts Council president Rich DiCarlo said today he wanted to publicly thank Martha Hinkson of Derby for her monetary donation as well as a donation of art supplies to the council.

Artists welcomed as new members
DERBY - The Valley Arts Council would
like to welcome five new members, President Rich DiCarlo said today.
They are: artists Ryan Glovna, Bianca
Jones, Tony Juliano, and Kori Brien, and an artist from New Haven named "War."
